The Russellville Depot was once managed by C.I.D. (Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Decatur) Railroad.
B&O Railroad came along later and bought it. B&O was one of the first chartered railroads in the United States many years ago.
During it's day, many people would get on the passenger train and head to Indianapolis to spend a few hours and head back.
It is the only depot still standing on the Indianapolis and Decatur Illinois railway.
The first Depot was destroyed on March 7th 1901. They then used box car number 716 in place of the depot.
The current depot was built on April 15th 1903.
The last mail that came on rail was on February 10th 1950.
The last railway express was on May 31st 1963.
The telegraph was discontinued in 1964.
The depot closed on June 3rd 1977.
